Do you remember how as a small child things always seemed to be much scarier after dark?
I'll never forget a time when I was outside playing with
some of my older cousins. The
sun had just gone down when they decided they were going to walk up the hill
behind my parent’s
house.
Life in a small town almost always guarantees that every
community will have at least one cemetery in the area, in some cases even two. As fate
would have it, the hill my cousins were walking up led to a cemetery; in fact
it belonged to our family. I'm not sure why I was allowed to go with them,
because after all it was dark, but I clearly remember following along behind,
desperately trying to keep them within sight.
When my little legs finally made it to the top, I could no
longer see them, but I did hear a lot of strange noises. I was sure
my cousins were the ones making them, in the effort to scare me, but just in
case it wasn't them,
I didn't wait around to find out. Instead, I ran back down the hill and into
the safety of my parent’s
house.
'Fear and trembling overwhelm me, and I can’t stop shaking.'
(Psalm 55:5
NLT)
Our lives are filled with the unknown, so it's very easy to allow fear to overtake our thoughts, and give doubt a threshold in our minds. For those of us who have put our trust in Jesus Christ, we have the assurance of supernatural protection, so we have no reason to fear.
'God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in
times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble
into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam.
Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!'
(Psalm
46:1-3 NLT)
Oh how my heart soars to know I have the Kings of kings on
my side. I can't imagine trying to get through a day without Him. I can't fathom a
single second away from His side. He is my all in all, and with Him I can make
it through anything.
Time after time we are faced with an uncertain future. We may feel fear, we may question how we are going to find a way past the mystery of what tomorrow holds, but as long as we cling to Him, He will sustain us through any trial.
'The water rose over my head, and I cried out, “This is the end!” But I called on your name, LORD, from deep within the pit.
You heard me when I cried, “Listen to my pleading! Hear my cry for help!” Yes, you came when I called; you
told me, “Do not fear.”
(Lamentations
3:54-57 NLT)
Father,
As doubts try to invade my mind, as my heart is currently
so overwhelmed with fear, I lay it all in Your hands, with the assurance
that You are still in control.
Lord, I simply want to walk ever close to You, to be in
Your presence as You steady my fears and calm my heart. Thank You for all the
promises You give to Your children, for without them I would be as one drowning
in an ocean with no hope for rescue.
As always, I pray this in Your name,
Amen
Salina

This post was on time! I needed this. Thank you Salina. And that is one of my favorite songs by Kari.
Hi Salina,
Thank you for your post :) Fear can creap in and overwhelm us, in so many ways, can't it. I love how our wonderful Saviour helps us through these times, feeding us with truth from His Word, to encourage, guide and protect. I love the assurance our God blesses us with.
Thanks hun. I love how His word has the ability to quiet our fears too. We always have it as a source to go to when we are confused about something because as you said above, we know we can rely of Him for the truth.
So glad it blessed you Carmen. I appreciate you letting me know that. God bless.
Praise God that His perfect love casts out all fear! Thanks for the great post & for hosting the linkup, & God bless!

In everyday, He steadies my heart. I've learned not to fear tomorrow for I know He's already been there. Loved the song, too!
